    Blood Test

I did a blood test dated 1/12/2011 TEST NAME NORMAL Fasting Blood Sugar: 76 mg/dl 70-110 Total cholesterol: 220 mg/dl ideal: upto 200, border: 201-250 Triglycerides: 190 mg/dl 60-160 HDL: 63 60-80 LDL: 119 mg/dl 50-150 T3: 81 ng/dl 60-200 T4: 6.99 ug/dl 4.5-12 TSH 8.64 uIU/ml 0.35-5.5 the great news is: my sugar has dropped dramatically to normal and even ideal levels! it's all the badminton, taekwondo and dieting! the bad news is my cholesterol is borderline / above average. i need to get my weight down. the wierd news: my TSH is above normal indicating hypothyroidism. I don't know what to make of it. I need to do another test and a consultation. But overall a great test. i'm so relieved i don't have diabetes or am at risk for it. just need to stay careful and lose the weight.

    Back to square one

I've not been working out as much. There were times when i was playing badminton every other day and alternating that with taekwondo. But after a while, some occasion or the other would come along and de-rail it. Anyways managing sushma's pregnancy cravings was also tough while maintaining a diet. Now, I am definately fitter but my weight has just not come down. I'm planning on starting afresh now. I'm planning on checking my blood for cholesterol and sugar. And I'm also doing a body fat composition. I'm also planning on quitting taekwondo and reducing badminton to a minimum due to the joint problem it creates. and I'm planning on going back to what i used to do best for losing weight: running. More details to come.

    Happy birthday to me

my weight is really weird. after binging a little on sushma and my birthdays, it's actually come down instead of going up. it had gone up to 86.1, and has now come down to 85.1. Am i dehydrated? Possible. I didn't drink water yesterday. regardless, for the next 6-8 weeks i'm going to go hardcore on the exercise and diet. Now i have stamina too, so the amount of calories i burn will be much higher. i made an excel sheet and hope to be at least 78 kilos by meghna's wedding.

    Less Fat, More Muscle

I am really beginning to think this is the case with me. Because I look thinner, tighter stuff now fits me better, my stamina really has increased, even parts of me like my hams, thighs, shoulders are harder. Even meghna pointed out that i was beginning to look different from the back. Even my tkd instructor said i look like i've lost weight. Anyways no need to despair. it's only been over a month. I will keep going. And I'll include even more fruit and fibre into my diet.

    A different level of fitness

It is really wierd. I've been working my ass off / and working out but today i weighed myself and it was really disappointing. I'm not much thinner today. But : 1) I feel much thinner 2) I look much thinner 3) My stamina, flexibility, strength are so much more higher I've been playing badminton and going for taekwondo for a couple of months now and I can see the difference via the above three points. So then why is my weight not down? 1) was i dehydrated the last few times my weight had gone down 2) have i put on muscle after losing fat (possible) 3) did i put on more weight after the last weigh-in, only to lose it? Anyways. Now that I'm measuring again, I can be more stricter on myself about the diet. And I can see where I'm going. Also, with the new stamina the amount of exercise i do in a day or per week would be astronomically higher than before - hence the velocity / momentum with which i reach the goal is now greater.

About Me

I was overweight through my childhood untill I was about 21. Then I joined a local gym and went for aerobics at 6 every morning and lost a lot of weight. After gaining a bit of it back, I then started body building and heavy running (which included two marathons) before I joined taekwondo (and went upto blue belt). Then I injured my ankle in a tournament, started studying for work related purposes, got married, changed countries... and each of these was a step up in my weight. I used to weigh 71 kilos at the peak of my physical fitness, I now weigh 87 kilos. I'm still determined though. Like the saying goes: the successful are the ones who go from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.
