    Back from Japan

Went to Japan for nine days. Abandoned the paleo diet, since it's damn near impossible to eat paleo in Japan (and in any case I'm not going to say no to all that good sushi, ramen, gyoza, et cetera). Immediately after coming back I weighed in somewhere over 85 kg, but a few days after getting back into the diet I'm already down to 83.4 which is a new record. I guess I must have had huge fluid fluctuations. Only 2.4 kilos left to go to BMI 25. Haven't quite decided where I'll stop yet, but 175lb sounds pretty good.

    Also, running!

I might as well also start keeping track of my running here as well, since I'm gonna be training to do another half-marathon before year's end. Possibly Las Vegas in December. First up, I'll do the 100-mile challenge. Heck, I can race myself to see whether I hit 81 kg or 100 miles first...

    Back, sort of!

On the offchance that anybody reads this, I thought I'd mention that I'm back here, sort-of, after a long hiatus. I've given up calorie counting, since it's too much bookkeeping and hunger for my liking, and am instead on a (basically) paleo diet. I don't buy any of the logic of the paleo diet as propounded by most of its advocates, but I do buy the core argument that you feel a lot more full after an N-calorie meal of steak and vegetables than you do after an N-calorie meal of just about anything else. I decided to give it a try about five weeks ago and it's actually been working extremely well. I've cut out sugar (duh) but also grains, legumes (mostly) and potatoes. I don't know whether it's a blood-sugar effect, but after cutting out the complex carbs I no longer get the craving for simple ones, so I've been eating ~2000 calories a day (I estimate) with no real hunger. Anyway, forget the calorie counting, I'm just here to track my weight. Starting point of the paleo was somewhere above 88.8 kg (which was my first official weigh-in, about a week after I actually started). Last weigh-in was yesterday at 86.4 kg. Half a kilo a week seems to be perfectly doable (though I worry it becomes less so later on). I have a relaxed goal of reaching 81 kg, which for me is BMI = 25, by the end of October.

    Ber

Drat, that last attempt didn't really work. Stupid broken finger. Getting back to calorie counting for a while. Today was made difficult by the fact I still have a bunch of chocolate left over from xmas, so let's get rid of that today.
