Overall goals for the coming year
Here's a general roadmap of what I'd like to do over the next year. The end result I'd like to see is 140lbs at around 8% body fat. Currently I'm around 140lbs at around 12% body fat. First goal lose 4% body fat by end of March. If I lost pure fat, this would come out to about 5.6 lbs. I'm pretty sure I'll lose some water and muscle, so I'm going to try for 8 lbs. So hopefully at that point I'll be 132 lbs at 8% body fat. Second goal is to gain 4 lbs of muscle by end of June. I'm anticipating putting on some fat again, so I'll aim for 6lbs of weight gain. At that point I should be 138 lbs at around 10% body fat. So I'll need to shed another 3 lbs or so to be back around 135 lbs. Then hopefully back to 141/142. Then down to 140. It'll look something like this: 1/1/2010: 140lbs 12% BF 4/1/2010: 132lbs 8% BF 7/1/2010: 138lbs 10% BF 8/1/2010 136lbs 8% BF 10/1/2010 142lbs 10% BF 12/31/2010 140lbs 8% BF This will almost all be through diet. My workouts M-F will remain almost identical: Bulking: Monday - Stronglifts A Tuesday - Climbing Wednesday - Arms workout Thursday - Climbing Friday - Stronglifts B Cutting: Monday - Stronglifts A Tuesday - Climbing Wednesday - Cardio Thursday - Climbing Friday - Stronglifts B Sat or Sun - Cardio

Crossfit Warmup
I've always been fascinated by and scared of crossfit. The WOD's look nearly impossible at times. Heck, even the official crossfit warmup is intimidating. One thing I've noticed since I started climbing was that I'm starting to dread days when I do Stronglifts. The workouts are getting super intense and difficult. I love climbing days. It's hard, but it's fun. I feel like I'm accomplishing something. I feel more flexible and limber. I think crossfit might be a better cross-training for climbing than Stronglifts. I know one of the strengths of crossfit is its variety and focus on functional strength, so I figured perhaps one way to get exposed to it would be its warmup. I tried it today and it was doable. I mean, I was able to finish it and do 20 minutes of cardio. I think that may have been the equivalent of a WOD. I'm only going to be able to do crossfit stuff 2x/week (Wed/Fri), so I'll see what that'll mean in terms of different WOD's to try.

Climbing
I've now decided I want to be as strong and lean as possible. I started rock climbing about a month ago, and I'm finding that it would be advantageous to be as light as possible. So I've cut my calories way down (1700-1800) and I'm climbing 2x/week. I think I'll add some strength training: all around with a bit more focus on back, biceps, forearms and core.

Cutting
With 13 lbs of bulking completed, I'm going to start cutting, mostly because I'm tired of eating and need a change of pace. I also want to show my wife that P90X is not worth $120. I honestly could keep bulking since i've only put on like maybe .5% body fat, but I wanna get to like 8%, lean and ripped. So starting today I'm gonna drop my calories to maintenance, then in another week down to loss.

Stronglifts B
Today I think Stronglifts B surpassed A in difficulty. Overhead press kicked our ass today. I think this will end up being my first plateau. So far, no fail yet though. Deadlift is getting difficult too. Making super-slow progress on chinups, basically going up one a week.
