    10 miler

Completed my first 10 mile training run. Not too bad except I had to deal with icy trails but otherwise a test of my endurance. And low and behold, I was able to maintian a 10 minute mile! I was also to employee visualization techniques I learned in from the book, "The Lore of Running". I feel my endurance is improving!

Knee issues resolved, but a cold has arisen

Running training has been put further on hold due to a cold I caught from a co-worker. To keep on schedule, I will probably resume my week 4 schedule next Monday. That will give me ample time to recover from this cold, as well as give my knee some additional rest. I just don't want to push things this early in the game and have to spend the entire year trying to recover from a too fast, too early work ethic. Although, I am getting major cabin fever not being able to go to the gym or get out and run the Coastal Trail. Oh well, I have plenty of miles ahead of me!

Week 3 Complete, Week 4 Knee issues

Week 3 was completed with 3/4/3 mile short distances and 5 mile long distance. As always week three for me running wise is like week 2 on the Biggest Loser, problems. Knee started acting up with a flare up of runner's knee, or more specifically in my case jumper's knee. This is causing problems for week 4 training and I may have to suspend running for a couple weeks until I can get the knee strengthened. Looks like cross training may be the way to go. Week 4 original schedule is 3/4/3 short distances with 9 miles long distance. Tonight is 4 miles on the dreadmill, if my knee hurts on the warm up, I am going to scratch the rest of week and switch to cross training and light weight training, especially leg lifting to help strenghten the knee. Knee issues are nothing new for me and running at this stage of the game and are usually resolved around week 6. I will probably be able to get back on it early next week if not this week.

    Week 2 Complete

I finished week 2 marathon training with 3/3/3 mile short distances and 7 mile long distance on Saturday. The long distance actually felt like 9 miles since the coastal trail wasn't compact very well. Like running on a beach! This week is 3/4/3 miles with a 5 mile long run. Rest and recover week.
