    16.6.11 Try Again

I am hoping that I have stopped procrastinating at long last and am going to stick with my resolve for more than a week. Kitchen renovations and work have cut into my gym time and I am going to have to make more effort to get there, a couple of time a a week will do nothing. I think I'm ready to have a serious go in the kitchen and have stocked up accordingly. Portion control is, as always, a looming issue for me, although on reflection, snacking to excess is just as big a problem. I worked out that one of my typical snacks, a cheese and pickle sandwich has the calorie count of a dieter's lunch. Two or three of those in a day are going to blow me out of the water, no matter how careful I am at meals.

    21.2.11 Oh Woe!

I weighed myself and produced a horrifying 93.4kg. I have gained 3.4kg since deciding to make a serious attempt to lose weight at new year. Not my best effort by a long shot. The feeling fatter has not been my imagination, I'm carrying half a stone extra. I have not been this heavy since (oddly enough) exactly this time of year in 2009. Time to start weighing more regularly and being a damn sight less self indulgent. I have exercised well this week, but obviously need much more restraint in the kitchen.

    17.2.2011 Not working

Still not training often enough and no weight loss. Am hoping to get in four training sessions before Wednesday next. One down. Have got back into the habit of only using the cross trainer for cardio - I should be rowing at least a couple of times a week and cycling, although I find it hard to muster enthusiasm for the bike.

3.1.2011 Need to do make an effort

A new year is a good time to draw another line in the sand. Irrespective of work commitments, I need to up my training days to get in four at a minimum, but I will need to average five sessions a week or better. It may be that 2010's weight loss record over the first months of the year may be a help in providing a benchmark to aim at. I know I managed it only a year ago. An average of a kg a week was achievable, although certainly not easy. I'll see how I go this week.

    27.12.10 Next....

Now that the 1000km challenge is out of the way, I need some more goals. I guess I need to break up my cardio into a wider range of activities. The X-Trainer is still a great way to burn lots of calories and something I can use to get my heart rate elevated and held high for a good length of time. The rowing machine is a definite, plus the arc machine for something different and stationary bike to make a start on getting my quads back.
