    Hello...

Hi Lily, I'm so happy to meet you. Thanks so much for your reply to my request for motivators. I really like your approach and the suggestions you shared with me about getting started with the walking, which is my main form of exercise too. I'm disappointed about falling back into the binging and no movement lifestyle. But of all the important lessons I've learned in my battle with food, I'd say one of the most important is to QUIT beating myself up when I fall. But I also need to be careful that I don't make excuses in order to allow myself to stay stuck either. Back to the walking... I ordered myself a good pair of diabetic shoes back in Jan. and because they were on back order I just got them about a week ago. I too have plantar fascitis (heal spurs) and they are very painful if I'm on my feet too long. But I can't believe the difference these new shoes have made for me. My problem now is the muscle pain and stiffness in my legs and the pain I have in my lower back caused from the fibromyalgia. But I know that the regular walking and a few strength exercises will help me in the long run. I'll keep doing this "around the block" walk each day for now. As you say, I can increase it next week if I'm feeling any better. Now with the fibro, you have flair ups where your in a lot of pain and your meds just don't work. You can't do much of anything and you pretty much have to sit in a recliner with ice packs or a heating pad for a whole day. But I don't think that lasts more than a day. I sure hope not anyway. I can assure you, I'm not a lazy person and I don't stay stuck in my recliner for too long before I'm back up and moving again. The other difficultly I have to deal with is the chronic fatigue. With that I have days that I literally wake up feeling exhausted and drained of energy. But again, I have to get a lot of sleep and rest during an episode, but as soon as I'm feeling better I'm up and moving again. My hope and desire is to not let my health issues keep me down for more than one day at a time. If I'm down 2 days then you'll know it's bad. One thing I really need help with is those post walking stretches. I've neglected that part totally and have simply told myself that it isn't that important. Sounds like you have to "make yourself" do that part too? Have you seen a change in your blood pressure since you began walking? I was just wondering because my ex had high bp too and we'd chart it every day. When he started walking on a regular basis it amazed us to see his readings improve. Aslo, does your walking have any effect on your asthma? Just wondering. Well, I'm going to go for now. I just wanted to drop you a note and it turned into a letter. Sorry. I like to write and I like to type, so I tend to get carried away. Take care and keep on moving forward with your goals and you'll get those 50 pounds off. (((HUGS))) Cindy

    Back to logging

I've been working long, crazy hours the past week or so, getting information compiled for grant application deadlines, and filling out the FAFSA (federal financial aid form) for my daughter's college. I was barely sleeping, eating at strange intervals, and not exercising (except for my eyeballs and typing fingers). I felt like Bob Cratchet. Whenever I closed my eyes to sleep, I would dream about typing numbers into boxes! Thank God those are finished, so now I can get back to catching up on my "normal" overload of work. So I'm logging my food again, beginning with this morning's breakfast.

    Happy New Year (late)

Hey, thanks for checking on me. The exercise stuff is going well...the food part not so much but still improving. Best wishes.

    Title...

Wow, way to go! According to my calculations...you've averaged about 0.58 lbs/week. That's awesome! (See, I'm paying attention...what are motivators for?) :)

    Thanks!

I appreciate the motivation! I've fallen off the exercise habit in the last few months. Going out at 6 AM is tough when it's so cold. But I'm planning to do it tomorrow (first time in a while). I'll let you know if I make it! :)

About Me

I'm a woman in my fifties carrying at least 60 too many pounds. I've tried to stick with regular exercise many times in the past, but quit out of boredom or been sidelined by plantar fasciitis due to going out too hard too soon. I'm determined to make progress baby step by baby step and set reasonable, measurable goals. My immediate goal is to walk at least 5 days a week, even if it's only 20 minutes at a time. Oh, and I will defeat my old Nemesis: at the end of every walk, I will stretch out my achilles tendons first. I will do other stretching too, but even if I get interrupted and do nothing else, I will hang my heels off that bottom step and press out those feet and ankles.
