Second weigh in - 208 pounds (Weight lost 8 pounds

Had my second weigh in this afternoon using exactly the same weighing scales as I had used for my initial weigh in and I am happy to say I have lost EIGHT POUNDS !!! I now am 208 pounds, which is 26 pounds off my goal weigh of 182 pounds. I am very happy with this obviously but am mindful that there is still a long way to go. If anyone wants to see the blueprint / plan I followed to lose these first eight pounds please visit my website where I have a list of everything I ate and all of my trainign activity. My goal for my next weigh in is to lose an additional 2 pounds. I am very much a realist and do NOT expect to lose another 8 pounds by my next weigh in. I also have a list of things here that I want to do better tha last week. These are: (1) Drink 2 litres of water a day (I sucked at doing this and drank way too much coffee) (2) Visualise daily my goal of reaching 182 pounds. This is something that top athletes do and whilst my goal is not as lofty there are numerous books out there which recommend this. (3) Healthier snacking. I need to have some more apprporiate snacks for work. I am currently chowing on snack a jacks at work which is ok but I would rather have some healthier options. Anyway, hope all of you are getting nearer to your weight loss goals. Bye G

    Duncan Bannatyne and Frozen Grapes

I never managed the morning run. A bit overambitious methinks. The good news is that I did manage to crank out a 10k this evening and have just got back and feeling vituous. Listened to a great audiobook whilst I ran called "Wake up and change your life" based on the life of Duncan Bannatyne. I am only an hour in to it but is already firing me up. It is all about how he turned his life around at 30 and became a millionaire by 37. Unlike some people who love music to listen to I love podcasts and books. I have also listened to "It's not about the bike" which is a book about Lance Armstrong's battle with cancer which is especially poignant after my mum's recent fight with breast cancer. In short find something that fires you up to run. One more tip for the day relates to grapes. I don't know if any of you like snacking when watching TV. This is one of my vices and have been known to polish off whole pots of revels when watching a film at my local Showcase...Not good. One thing to try is to freeze grapes. They taste like chunks of Calippo (the frozen fruit sticks) and ae cheap, convenient and low in calories.. I admit they are not on par with Phish food but you can save that treat for your rest day. Lastly, just thought I would say that my trousers are already fitting looser and I feel far less bloated. A good start. Apparently, you need to do something for 21 days for it to become a habit. So another 17 days to go before I will be on autopilot.

Aching after my first concentrated weight training

Today was my weight training day. I am going to try and get in 2 days a week. Most of my cardio for the next 3 weeks will be running as I have the Bristol half marathon coming up. I have constanly struggled to stick at weight programmes. I tend to do one for 2-3 weeks then find a new one from the latest Men's Health or celebrity. My goal for this 90 day challenge is to stick to one all the way. I have selected the Jorgen De Mey Action Hero Workout. This guy is well known in Hollywood and has trained Angelie Jolie for Tomb Raider as well as Ben Affleck for Pearl Harbour. You can get the book from Amazon or Borders. I did the "work out when travelling" workout today. Feel a bit achey now but feel good for it. I think I need to buy a video camera as feel this will be a good way to illustrate my progress over the next 90 days. Cheers gareth

DAY TWO - Feeling fired up for this task

It has now sunk in how out of shape I have let myself get but I am strangely calm and rather than being stressed about it feel motivated. In case you didn't hear I am 216 pounds and 6ft tall. I am 34 pounds over my goal weight. The funny thing is I look ok but I have a bit of a gut which can easily be hidden with clothes. Although I know this sort of fat is the worst for a male to carry.. I managed to eat very well yesterday (although need to drink more water) and I feel even more more motivated today. I am off for a run to Bath (a historic city) in about an hour so will let you know how that goes later. My goals today are: 1.Run 10 miles (yes I can do this even being overweight) 2.Eat in a controlled, concious manner and no crap 3.Drink least 2 litres of water. 4.Track my food intake and training 5.Set up a blog to track all this (thinking wordpress) One of my other goals later is to write a list of all the reasons I am doing this which I will have at hand when the going gets tough and I feel like popping open some pringles or skipping a workout. Thanks to Tim and his team for building this site. Let's hope I use it to help keep me focused. Bye for now. Gareth (MISSION182)
