    Update on Spring Running

The spring running is going pretty good. The first day, I had some pretty persistent back pain, but it has subsided. I havent been pushing it too hard, instead alternating between a 8:30 - 10:00 depending on hills (its very hilly) If I push it, I could most likely get it into the low 50's but am fine right now improving little by little by keeping it at a fast jog. I have just over two weeks until the race, so the last thing I want to do is get hurt or stress anything.

    Spring Outside Run

I have a 10k course I have mapped out near my home. It's for sure not flat, and I use it to train for 10k's. Today was WINDY, and I have been doing quite a bit of treadmill training the past 4 months, so I have to get used to running outside again. It wasnt too bad today, just under 10k in under 1 hour. The Flying Pig 10k I'm running with my wife in Cincinnati is basically completely flat, and the Bayshore a month later is the same. My goal is to not only break an hour (which shouldnt be too hard) but to pace my wife to come close or reach that also. She can run a 10 min pace for three miles easily, so my goal is to keep that pace until mile 4-5, and then run the last mile or so at a much faster pace. I didnt tell her about the pacing though. I did tell her the most important thing is that she finishes. The time really doesnt matter and she is well aware of that.

    Back From Vacation

Back from Cancun after a week and a half. I had the best intentions of running everyday, but only mustered one day! We were pretty active with swimming, and did that everyday for at least an hour, so there was some exercise involved, but the food is another story entirely. All inclusive resort, so suffice to say, I exceeded my caloric limits everyday! Back to the real world though. The Cincinnati Flying Pig 10k is at the end of the month, so the training resumes!

    3/14/2008 10 Mile Run

Ran 10 miles @ 9:00 pace, and could have gone quite a bit faster. Typical getting the body started until 3 mile mark, then as usual, fell into a comfortable groove and never got out of it. I was tempted to actually go further, but dont want to push too hard. My next week is crazy at work, and I have to work all week and the weekend, so I will have to adjust my running schedule. (the weekend is out of town, and I dont have the time to do 10 miles on a treadmill before work) The following week I go on vacation for a week and half but the wife and I are committed to keeping up by doing our running in the mornings. (well see!)

    10 Mile Run

Did my 10 mile Saturday run today. It was within the range I like to see it, although on the high side. It was a little harder today, although it was fine until about the 7 mile mark. It was more of a mind thing, my body felt great. I have been trying to keep my mid-range run's at a 9:00 pace or faster, and my long runs under 10:00/mile. My shorter runs (1-3 miles) I'm shooting for a sub 8:00 mile, although it depends on the route I'm taking. With spring around the corner here, I can start running on the trails again, which helped immensely the tail end of last year.

About Me

My wife and I started eating differently and exercising as part of a lifestyle change last year. I now fluctuate between 170 and 185 lbs, depending on what day it is! I was a die hard runner in high school and college, and fell out of it due to smoking and poor diet choices. Goals this year are to run as many 5k and 10k's with my wife that we can afford, and then top it off with a half at the end of the year.
