I LOVE SLEEP
Last night I got 10 hours of sleep. It felt incredible. I realize now why "older people" go to sleep earlier (read: my MOTHER who I ceaselessly taunted her 9pm bedtime) and yet, here I am, getting sleepy around 10 or so, waking up refreshed, and LOSING WEIGHT! Sleeping has always been a favorite of mine, and now that it's more of a priority it is paying off in so many ways! I borrowed the Paleo Comfort Foods cookbook from the library (I think I'm the first) and can't wait to make my own DILL PICKLES and fried chicken, etc... I'm doing another Whole30 with my sister in law, my wonderful hubby beginning April 1st. It's going to be a challenge but I am going to do this one with NO mistakes. I won't kill myself if Jon and I are stranded, starving and there are no "paleo friendly" meals around. This isn't like my obsessive side. This is the smart side that will give it her best shot (more than the first one in February) and enjoy it. I'm not going to look at it like a "oh man. this is SO hard, I can't wait for May". But rather "HEY! I'm eating all this good food and my body comp is getting better, I'm getting stronger, I'm sleeping better, and I feel amazing!" Doesn't that sound better? Only 1.2 pounds until I hit my THIRD goal of 5 pounds. I still owe myself a gift card from the last one. So I'll buy that today and by next week I may be able to get another one!

who was I kidding?
Such a bad bad idea. I packed my lunch yesterday (read: grass fed beef patties and brussels sprouts) and I didn't eat it because I wasn't hungry. Wanna know why? Because I was too busy snacking on those damn toll house semi sweet chocolate chips. Oh yeah, and a couple pieces of general tsos chicken that was hanging (mind you, luke warm) on a table, waiting to be thrown out. They should have taken me out with the garbage. I haven't had that much sugar or carbs in over two months and came home with a headache like you wouldn't believe and a sluggish feeling. SO. Great wakeup call because I didn't realize that those deliciously evil, seemingly innocent morsels were 70 calories for ONE DAMN TABLESPOON and NINE grams of carbs and much too much sugar. Ugh. Never ever doing that again. So for this morning? I'm back up on the good chair and eating what should have been my lunch yesterday. No more chocolate unless it's ridiculously expensive (or from Trader Joe's) and I can't afford to eat more than a couple bites for the whole day. Tollhouse isn't worth it. 2 hour old general tso is getting the boot. I'm done. My brain had a field day and now I'm back in charge. That is all. :)

A hiatus, but not off the wagon!
There are about two weeks without any information on them, because our computer decided to die. Luckily we were able to resuscitate it during one LONG saturday evening and it has taken me up til today, ONE WEEK LATER to return and record my measurements, food intake, etc... I also have recorded *in my head* new personal records for weight lifting :) I can't wait to get my cardio in shape so I can jump rope for longer periods of time! I also tried the "grok hang" and couldn't hold on for more than a few seconds so hopefully I don't need to reenact any Indiana Jones movie scenarios. Cus then I would DIE. The sun is outside, I was successful in finishing my WHOLE 30 (it was not perfect but certain situations prevented from 100% strict. And I'm okay with that) and I had 2 grassfed burgers with salsa verde *yay trader joe's!* and hopefully work goes smoothly and is fun. I've decided not to have sweet potatoes unless it's post workout. I also need to reign in on the chocolate. There are some semi sweet chocolate chips at work I keep reaching into and it's probably not going to de-rail me, but it concerns me that my will power is bent so easily with that chocolatey goodness. It's good to be back on track again!

First comprehensive health assessment (Day 14)
Oy. My shoulders hurt. Being the wife of a firefighter does have its advantages since their resident physical therapist has some very precise equipement to measure your body strength, cardio, body composition, flexibility, weight, etc... I have a LOT of work to do and it's really helped me reaffirm why it's so imperitive that I keep my momentum going with becoming healthier. Thank goodness the scale was over seven pounds from my home scale because I about had a heart attack. haha. I did really well in the bicep strength and OK on the pushups (modified) but SUCKED for the cardio, flexibility (surprised), situps, and my body composition is 43% body fat. YUCK. But it's a great motivator to keep track of this and to see where I will be in six months. Even though I feel like I've already "worked out" today, I'm going to work out with Jon and Emily later on this evening where we will hail the mighty kettle bell and jump rope and do some squats. I realize how imperitive my strength training is, however I could definitely do worse than to focus on cardio more than I have been. I have been keeping a folder on my desktop that has a lot of great information that I want to remember for later reference and so I have scanned my complete body composition profile so I can easily access it. I've also been downloading my weekly Daily Burn logs to keep a clear track of where I am with gaining my exercise throughout the week as well as keeping those darn'd carbs as low as I can. I'm excited to see my progress every month and BUY NEW CLOTHES!

Day 10
Last night I held my first ever Super Bowl party. Mind you, there were only 3 on the guest list but it involved me making every single food item from scratch, including all the sauces. I have been drooling over my "Make it Paleo" cookbook and followed (nearly) the suggestion in the back for "game day" food. There were chicken wings, chorizo poppers (HOT), guacamole, crudite (in foodie talk it means VEGGIES cut really cute), buffalo, barbeque and dill mayonnaise dip. I ended up using ALL of the avocado oil for the mayo recipe which I wasn't anticipating *think-expensive* but we really enjoyed it and Emily even mentioned she liked it more than ranch dip. *gasp!*. It was a very enjoyable night, which was followed after the game with "Despicable Me" where I promptly fell into a sleep/food coma and passed out. Today I walked to my Adeva salon and got more shampoo, conditioner, etc... *YAY* and headed over to our Oberlin market where I picked up another 2# of pasture butter and gallon of pasture milk from our local dairy called "hartzlers". They don't homogenize their milk so it's got more of the vitamins and is only lightly pasteurized. It's the next best thing to raw milk. I'm down 15.6 pounds from my highest!!! I haven't lost any weight in the last two days but I've been keeping my carbs down and exercising a lot more than before so I'm excited I haven't wavered on any sugar cravings or let workouts slide through the week. Now on to plan dinner for tonight...from my Paleo cookbook no less. :)
