Activity not Results
Something I always forget (any time I commit to losing weight) is that my focus needs to be on ACTIVITY in the first month and not be fooled with what I believe are uninspiring results. The scale will often stay in "park" for up to a week. I will think nothing is happening even though I am eating better foods, exercising regularly, and drinking considerably more water. I know that eventually I will step on a scale and do a happy dance. I know that certain principles are bullet proof. If I burn more calories each day than I take in and give myself genuine nutrition to fuel my body, I WILL shed pounds. I also must remind myself to weigh no more than once per week. Too much can happen to fluctuate day to day. It can be frustrating. The last thing I need with this is frustration and lack of motivation. Activity. Consistent activity. That's the deal.

By the Mile, It's a Trial. Inch by Inch, it's a Ci
Trite but true. I am finding the key to this process is to stay focused on each day, each meal, each workout. If I project myself too far into the future, it can be overwhelming and discouraging. Staying present makes everything manageable.

Awareness and a Surprising Observation
The last thing I ever expected to learn from tracking my food intake was that I am not eating ENOUGH every day. I had always assumed I was gaining weight because I ate TOO MUCH or that I was eating crummy foods. In actuality, I am eating pretty decent foods but I am under-consuming calories. I also was skipping meals, sometimes not eating until lunch, then having too many of my daily calorie intake at the end of the day. Awareness is a powerful tool. Within 24 hours, I was able to shift not only WHAT I was eating, but WHEN. To my amazement, I lost 2 pounds over two days. This proves what I always suspected. I DO know what to do to lose weight and feel my best. I have just been distracted and unfocused. With clarity and awareness, I know I can get where I want to go.

Let's Get Started
That's right. Someone took my picture. They posted it on Facebook. It didn't match what I thought I looked like. In my mind, I'm 20 years younger and 30 pounds thinner. I don't like what I see. I realize it holds me back from really going for things I really want. I published a book last year, and find myself hesitating to promote it because I don't want to get on camera (any camera) like this. I know I can change. I've done it before. But I also know that self-motivation only takes me so far. My friends flake, my family loses interest after a couple of months. I need a community that has common goals. I need accountability. I figure if an iPhone App can help me stay on top of my finances, it ought to work with my fitness goals. I am GadgetSister. This is my kind of gadget. I'm ready. Let's go.
