    Lifestyle change destroyed any progress I had made

    This begins my return to fitness. I have much to atone for in the last six months, I am giving myself six months to achieve my previous goals. To this end I have changed my work situation and created a situation where I can ride a bike to work most days and pass by the gym along the way. This means I will be able to get both cardio and resistance training back into my life when I was making such good progress last year.

    Thank you for the motivation, Steve. A month or so ago, my pain med made me suddenly lose my hearing, so I stopped taking it. My hearing came back in one ear, and mostly in the other, so that's good. Meanwhile, all I can take is aspirin (for its anti-inflammatory properties). But, with the "full dose" of pain from neck to toe, 24/7, it's hard to feel like doing much of anything. I miss exercising. My left elbow is now "shot". Luckily I can let it pop just right so I can type. Maybe I'll "make myself" do some kind of exercise today, even if short. Thank you for checking in on me. :-)

    regaining some of the stamina

    Has the time to extend the ride today, although it was interrupted to repair a flat. Got the Cox loop in and despite the 85° temp did not get back home dripping like a wet rag. Still far from the shape I was in last year at this time. But I am not giving up the battle. I have a new target date of 3/1/2010

    Done and done. I was having a hard time with getting the exercises in there when I'm using the TRX but I've decided *fuggit* - I'm doing curls, they're bicep curls, done - entering them as dumbbell curls.

About Me

While I have always enjoyed physical activity I was never more than an average athlete, perhaps it was the childhood asthma, maybe it was poor coaching, or perhaps I was just lazy. After completing college I became more structured in my exercise, and ever since I have gone through two year cycles where I go to the gym 3+ days a week, followed by a similar period where I just can not find the time. Usually it is career change or a continental move that causes this. With the arrival of twin daughters in 2007, and after attaining my greatest weight ever I made the decision that if I did not do something about my physical condition immediately I might not be able to keep up with them by the time they reached their second birthday. A very sobering and depressing thought. The usual aches and pains ensued, but instead of being hooked on exercise after three weeks it took a full eight weeks. Exercise while not a passion, is once again a required source of enjoyment and balance in my life. The discovery of DailyBurn has tapped into my competitive nature and helped me visualize my progress as well as motivate me. Currently my focus is building cycling stamina and weight loss.
