    Well Done

Well done on going for your walk - did you enjoy it. Remember, when you are cleaning the house you are still burning more calories than just resting. (Spent quite a bit of yesterday cleaning, believe me I know!)

    One step at a time!

Everyone handles change differently; I am one of those people that when I get into something, I sort of go crazy on that thing. It doesn't matter what it is, playing hockey, fly fishing, reading...or even being healthy. But what really did it for me, what really made me understand that I need to take better care of myself, was turning 40 and my wife and I deciding that we are going to adopt a baby from Ethiopia. We don't have any kids; for my entire life I've basically lived it for myself. But I turned 40 and was one of many who fit into the category of "obese." There were things I couldn't do, or couldn't enjoy at least, that I knew I'd want to enjoy with my kid someday. Sure, I didn't like how I looked in the mirror or how I felt in the morning after a night of eating until I was super full, and I resented the gym and didn't want to go. I had all kinds of excuse, all the time. But in reality most of that stuff - I could live with and get by day to day with who and how I was. But I just couldn't shake this image of me being 50 years old and super fat, unable to do simple yet pleasurable things, like hike, or bike ride, or golf or whatever without discomfort. So that's where I'm at - my journey is from 40 and fat to 40 and fit. Starting is the easy part. You can start any time of day. You ALWAYS have a choice. It's not about how much you weigh or whether or not you can wear a sleeveless shirt and feel confident about it. It's about taking care of the temple God gave you to spend your living days in, and enjoying your life to the fullest. Food is just the fuel we use to keep the temple working. Where we get pleasure should be in each other and the challenges we face and overcome. You are here, and that is a great step towards a healthy future. Keep your head up! This is a marathon, not a sprint.
