    Zumba

Since I'm working during the day and barely time at night, I haven't been to the gym in quite some time. I finally purchased my own Zumba DVDs and tried the first one today. It kicked my ass, but it felt great!

    heel striking

The new shoes may help (I'm assuming they are motion control?) but they won't fix your heel strike problem by themselves. That will take a conscious effort on your part. It is weird to concentrate on how your feet are hitting the ground, and it will feel unnatural at first when you try changing it. It will be automatic after a while though. My husband used to heel strike - it was one of the things that gave him shin splints too. That only started to heal after he changed his strike. It took him about 3 weeks for it to not feel weird. One thing to try is to go running on slightly muddy dirt or wet sand, something where you can see your foot prints. Run for a bit and examine your prints. If the deepest part is in the heel, you heel strike. You are aiming for a fairly even print.

    Running with glasses

Welcome back! I do run with my glasses on. They used to get foggy and or rain splattered if it was raining, which made it hard to see. I now wear a brimmed cap, similar to a baseball cap, and that keeps the rain off. It is made of mesh, so my head doesn't get too hot or sweaty, but it has a sweat band so nothing can made it down my face. You still have shin splints? I agree with @TheAng that maybe you should see a physiotherapist. Also, have someone watch you run for a bit to see how your foot strikes the ground. People who heel strike often have problems with shin splints. You should be aiming for a mid-foot strike. It takes a bit of effort to change, but it can be done.

About Me

I'm back! again. Since gaining the 10 pounds I originally lost and gaining an additional 10, I'm back. I got busy working with my new job and took my weight for granted and thought since I was more active during the day, I didn't have to be accountable. Well, that didn't work out too well. Since calorie counting again, I am down about 7 pounds. It's amazing to see how fast it can come off when you do the right thing. http://susanjustdoit.wordpress.com
