    #megsmiles - the global running family united

    Today's 10km run was for [mother of three] Meg Cross Menzies who was tragically killed by a drunk driver while out for her morning run on January 13, 2014. As an avid runner, member of the Richmond Road Runners Club, and Boston marathoner, she was a member of the running family nationwide. Runners all over the world ran today in her honor - our hope was to raise awareness of drunk driving, texting and driving, and overall safety of runners and cyclists everywhere.

    Consistent sub-50 min 10kms!

    Getting closer to my goal of consistent sub-50 min 10km runs. I've run sub-50 min 10kms in race conditions but I want to be able to be consistent in training and daily runs. So far this week I've run consistent 51.5 - 52.0 mins 10kms....on track!!!

    Alpine hiking!

    Missed 5 days of runs this past week :-( but had a good excuse as I was hiking in the alps! After hiking to the top of the Tegelberg [830 - 1730m], I went further and hiked/climed to the top of the Ahornspitze [1780m].....the view from the top was AMAZING!

    Back running....increasing my Kms again!

    After about 2 months alternative travelling to Canada and the US for work purpose, along with getting sick every time I returned to Europe due to the continuous snow....I am finally back in my home base for a while...the snow has stopped...and I'm ready to get back into some serious running! It's marathon day in my city; I've run in it for the past 2 years (since I moved here) but made the decision not to this year due to all the travel (and thus...lack of prep.)....but I'm jealous! Prep'ing now for the neighbouring towns marathon day in June ......for now I'll head out to support those who have supported me in the past. Happy running everyone :-)

    Carbs versus calories - re-loaded!

    Still having some trouble with the carbs versus calories issue I'm having continuously. I have decreased my carbs so that they fall into line with what Daily Burn recommends given my daily exercise, etc....and I am noticing a big change in my body shape and generally feeling of heaviness (I don't feel so bloated and heavy), however, I rarely meet my calorie goals, meaning that I wake up at 2am regularly starving and have to eat something....I try not to eat anything bad but still I am eating food in the middle of the night which can't be good. I have tried to increase my protein intake, which is helping a little, but my vegetarian diet means that carbs are a part of my daily diet and when I decrease them, but continue exercising the same, I have little energy.
